we love: ‘you and the nite’ by leo37 from his EP ‘fanfare’ (via @ppfhouse)
Toronto-based production house, PPF House, in association with Taiwan-based artist collective, The Blast,is proud topresent the final single from LEO37’s critically acclaimed Fanfare, titled You & The Nite.Once again featuring producer John Poon’s overwhelming drums and hypnotic bass lines to go with LEO37’s vivid lyrics and stylistic cadences, You & the Nite includes a special guest feature from vocalist Lillian Chan, who is, not only gifted in voice, but also an award winning animator as well as the director for Fanfare’s 2nd single, Fire Dance.
Having received critical acclaim through publications and sites all over the world, You & The Nite serves as the gentle conclusion to an otherwise aggressive and high paced EP. The bass heavy track has LEO37 embarking on a 1st person narrative detailing his (and most artists’) intense relationship and comfort with the dark. Featuring animation and direction from PPF House head Howie Shia, whose resume has earned him awards from film festivals across the globe (including the Tokyo International Anime Fair Grand Prize and Best Short Film at Montreal’s Fantasia Film Festival) as well as a mention on Kanye West’s blog for his video with eletronic composer, Deru (Avatar, the Last Airbender: Animated Series), his vision with the help of videographer, Joyce Wong brings new dimension to the mood heavy, You & The Nite. As for the music, all instrumentation on ‘You & The Nite’ was handled by John Poon.
Both PPF House and The Blast are groups of like-minded artists who, through varying mediums and genres strive to create forward thinking, yet accessible product. For Saskatchewan born, Toronto bred LEO37, this is the 4th single to his 3rd release. Having just wrapped up his first full year as a Taiwanese resident, LEO37 along with the Blast have continued to tour across Asia as well as most recently being heavily involved with Nike Taiwan’s largest event to date, the 6-week street culture extravaganza, Summer Nights. Now with plans of 2 follow up releases, in 2013, LEO37 is poised to remain in the public eye for the foreseeable future.
